ALL-STAR PROGRAM

The All-Star Program is one of TORL’s fundamental mandates. This program offers players a chance to participate at an elite level on both the Provincial and National stage.

Coaches

The TORL Executive and Board of Directors choose the All-Star coaches. Applications are made available annually to all eligible coaches. The selection process is based on but not limited to qualifications (NCCP- National Coaches Certification Program), experience, and coaching philosophy

Try-Outs

Evaluation camps (Try –Outs) are scheduled prior to the regular house league schedule and usually consist of 4-6 ice times.  All eligible players are welcome to attend these camps. (Invitation letters are issued prior to the camps). Independent “Evaluators” assist the coach and bench staff in the team selection process. Coaches evaluate physical, technical, tactical and mental skills among other variables during this process.

In accordance with BC Ringette Association policy, players trying out for All-Star teams shall meet the following criteria:

      1. Shall be members in good standing with a BC member Association.
      2. Must be registered with their home association prior to the start of tryouts.

Once the team is selected, coaches routinely schedule ice and dry land training sessions intended to develop individual and team skills. Team bonding is always a high priority at this level of play.  TORL Policy requires that coaches give consideration to the “house league team” as a priority if there are conflicts.

Funding

Players and Parents should be aware that the League offers only limited funding for these teams. Costs are mainly born by the players and parents. To help offset the costs incurred for ice time, travel, tournament fees, outerwear, etc fund raising is conducted.

Playdowns

TORL’s All-Star teams play off with the other league All-Star teams (Lower Mainland, Northern, & Island) each February at “Playdowns”. The winning team represents BC at the Westerns (Tween) or Nationals (Junior - Open). Playdowns rotate amongst the Leagues with the Westerns and Nationals rotating amongst the Provinces.

This program offers the players a great opportunity to develop elite team and individual skills, confidence, and friendships.
